As the political arena has been declared open by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), many political gladiators have been jostling to secure their party ticket for the forthcoming general election scheduled for February 2019.

Anambra state which has been a theatre of political battle is still a state to watch this time around. Among the aspirants who have indicated interest to serve their people in the state is Obinna Chukwudum Uzoh, Chairman/CEO of GOCUZ Group of Companies Limited and Founder, Obinna Uzoh Foundation.

Uzoh is contesting under the platform of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to represent Anambra South Senatorial District in the Senate.

The Gocuz boss, a chieftain of PDP and an apostle of politics of inclusion without bitterness is not new to Anambra politics having been in the system since 2002.

While submitting his expression of Interest and Nomination form at the party secretariat in Awka, Uzoh explained that his interest in the race is the welfare of his people which he has been pursuing for a long time in a private capacity as a businessman. He promised to give the people of Anambra South Senatorial District quality representation. “We have seen it all in the private sector, as a technocrat, as an administrator with a lot of experience garnered over years, in business and in my profession as a lawyer. We want to bring to bear those experiences in representing our people in the red chamber in Abuja” Uzoh stated.

“As a private person, I have contributed my quota to ameliorate the sufferings of my people who have been victims of flood disaster, erosion and other ecological challenges. As a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I will be in a better position to do more in that direction through proper legislation and attracting federal attention to the plight of my people,” Uzoh further explained.

According to him Nnewi remains an important business and manufacturing hub east of the Niger which needed the attention of the federal government to actualize its full potential as an economic nerve centre of the country.

The senatorial hopeful also stated that PDP remains a formidable party in the state, but there is the need for the party to come together to build a common and formidable front to reclaim its hold on the state. Victory can only be achieved for the party in the state when there is unity for a common purpose. He called on the national leadership of the party to play a fatherly role in ensuring unity among the warring factions for PDP’s victory in the state come 2019.

Uzoh submitted his form on Monday, September 10, 2018 in the company of party chieftains, friends, associates and youth leaders across the senatorial districts that have one way or the other benefitted from his magnanimity.

Obinna Uzoh Foundation has been in the forefront of helping and supporting the less privileged across the state for over twenty five years through his foundation.

It is on record that through the foundation, he single-handedly built a church for his people, assisted communities through contribution in building of churches, built and donated a 3 storey building for the law faculty of Madonna University, Okija and a youth hostel in Amansea, Awka.

The foundation has also provided transformers to several towns in the zone, constructed/rehabilitated rural roads, provided boreholes and rural electrification of towns and villages across the state. He have equally awarded scholarship to students from primary to tertiary level as well as special scholarship for specialized courses like Medicine, Law, Accountancy and Engineering. Indigenes of the state have also benefitted from his establishment of small scale businesses for the youths and providing for them revolving loans.

Uzoh will slug it out for the PDP ticket in the zone with Hon. Chuma Nzeribe, Chris Ubah and Linus Ukachukwu. For the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Bianca Ojukwu will fight it out with Ifeanyi Uba of Capital Oil and Gas Limited while the incumbent senator, Andy Ubah may likely take the ticket under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
