The High Court in Owerri Imo State has asked the Governor of Imo State Owelle Rochas Okorocha to stop the swearing in of Mr. Callistus Ekenze as the new Deputy Governor replacing Prince Eze Madumere until the matter is resolved in court
Prince Madumere was impeached yesterday by the State House of Assembly despite a court order. He was impeached by 19 out of the 27 members of the Assembly.
Following the impeachment, the state House of Assembly had confirmed Mr Calistus Ekenze as the replacement of Madumere. The confirmation was after the Majority leader of the House, Mr. Lugard Osuji, moved the motion for the adoption of Ekenze, as Madumere’s replacement. Until his recognition by the state House of Assembly, Ekenze was the head of Imo state civil service. He is alsofrom the same Mbaitoli local government area as the impeached deputy governor.
